Billy Elliot has been inspiring audiences since the film first opened in cinemas in 2000. The heart-warming and uplifting story of a young boy who defies his family and community and battles to achieve his unlikely dream of becoming a dancer struck a chord with audiences worldwide. The stage production has taken the world by storm, inspiring millions of theatre goers not only in London and Australia, but now on Broadway where it recently won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.Last year, one of the cast who took part in Billy Youth Theatre, Connor Lawson, was invited to audition for the show and is about to start performing as Billy’s best friend Michael in the London show! Billy Youth Theatre is a countrywide scheme as part of which participating schools and youth groups will be given the opportunity to stage their own production of this internationally award-winning show. Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall together with Martin Koch (Musical Supervision and Orchestrations), have adapted their original script and orchestrations to produce a shortened version of the show exclusively for groups staging local productions as part of Billy Youth Theatre.
